IBSS was awarded a task order with NWS National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Central Operations to provide Model Implementation Support Services to assist NWS in moving into its new operational High Performance Computing (HPC) architecture.
NCEP Central Operations collects, maintains, and supports global meteorological data. Environmental scientists then analyze that data to execute the operational suite of forecast models and numerical analyses used to generate a wide variety of environmental guidance information.
IBSS has partnered with with RedLine Performance Solutions, specialists in HPC technologies, to deliver services that include:
- Adapting environmental models to perform on the new architecture
- Assistance in moving the operational weather models onto a new Cray architecture
- Setting up data feeds to support the HPC environment
