Ensuring Public Right Access to Records from the DEA
Supporting Federal Agencies for 26 years
Part of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) mission of national and international drug interdiction is to collect and maintain various records pertaining to investigations, informants, and other law enforcement activities related to illicit substance trafficking. Through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the 1974 Privacy Act (PA), and the Information Quality Act (IQA), individuals may request for the release of these records from the federal agency. For the DEA, IBSS’s knowledgeable paralegal team will evaluate the 2,000 requests received annually to identify what information can fulfill these requests and prepare professional correspondence responses to requestors. This Freedom of Information & Privacy Act Support contract was obtained through the GSA PSS Schedule with a ceiling of over $4M for a duration of 4 years in Arlington, VA.
Since 2011, we have provided FOIA and PA services to other federal agencies including the DOJ Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries. Using the best processing systems (FOIAonline, FOIAXpress, and Clearwell eDiscovery), our team reduced the FOIA request backlog by 80% for NOAA Fisheries through process innovations and SOPs to eliminate barriers of success. Utilizing similar methods, we shall achieve great results for the DEA as well.
