The 2020 Summer Internship program at IBSS was a huge success! Although our interns were working from home, they still gave their all. Our interns are talented, motivated, and eager to learn. Meet the interns below!

Nick – BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Nick, one of the IBSS Summer 2020 interns

Nick was IBSS’s Business Development Intern. Nick kept himself busy by generating, nurturing, and closing leads for IBSS CMMC consulting practice. Through LinkedIn, Nick connected with potential clients to explain cybersecurity compliance solutions and how IBSS can help them. This summer, he focused on expanding IBSS capabilities into the commercial space. His internship with IBSS helped him explore different career options in sales, business, and marketing. He believed the most valuable aspect of his internship with IBSS was obtaining experience in multiple possible career paths. His favorite experience at IBSS was a company-wide cleanup of Rock Creek Park in the D.C. area that he helped organize, where everyone came out to have fun, enjoy the weather, and bond as a team and family.

Kate – GOOGLE APPS SALESFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Kate, one of the IBSS Summer 2020 interns

Kate was a Google Apps – Salesforce Integration Development Intern at IBSS this past summer. Kate helped the Business Development Team by writing code to connect Google Forms to Salesforce via Google App Script and the Salesforce API. Salesforce is a cloud-based system for customer relationship management (CRM). Working on this project was difficult but rewarding, according to Kate. The most valuable skill she learned was how different programming services work together. This internship provided Kate with valuable insight into how programming and computer science teams work in a corporate environment. The real world application of working on a development team is a powerful skill that she can carry with her after her internship with IBSS. Kate will attend the University of Virginia in the fall where she will study Computer Science. After graduation, she hopes to combine her programming skills to help the environment through supporting renewable energy.

Michael – GOOGLE APPS SALESFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Michael was a Google Apps Salesforce Development Intern at IBSS this summer. He worked hard debugging code and finding solutions that work to automate the development of Google Slides from data stored in Salesforce. This summer was Michael’s fifth time as an intern with IBSS. Last summer, he worked on an exciting project to train AI machine learning to establish a network baseline, and that program was able to identify cybersecurity issues and cyber attacks through machine learning. Michael’s favorite experiences at IBSS have been the annual company wide picnics because he loves the food and meeting new people! After graduation, Michael would like to pursue a career in cybersecurity and start his own computer building consulting business.

Thomas – INTRANET DEVELOPMENT

Thomas, , one of the IBSS Summer 2020 interns

Thomas was the Intranet Development Intern at IBSS this summer. His main project was working on an internal website for IBSS employees, which will feature an announcement board, quick links to websites that employees often visit, and other important information for IBSS employees. This internship was valuable to Thomas because it allowed him to learn more about coding, specifically Python. His favorite experience at IBSS was completing his first project, writing code that maps out clients on Google Maps. “It was a big undertaking”, Thomas said, “but exciting when I finished.” Interning at IBSS allowed Thomas to take on more responsibilities and put him ahead of the curve in regards to experience. His career goals are not certain, but he is interested in game development, psychology, or computer science.

Max – B-CORP PROJECTS

Max, , one of the IBSS Summer 2020 interns

Max was a B-Corp Project Intern at IBSS this summer. He assisted the HR Department to help raise IBSS’s B-Corp Impact Score, which is a measurement of the positive impact small businesses have on their workers, environment, community, and customers. Max helped implement procedures and practices to help IBSS raise its score. Specifically, he wrote policies to help improve IBSS’s environmental impact through community service and reducing hazardous waste. He also helped improve IBSS’s diversity standards through surveying employees on their race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. He took on a leadership role within his current internship, which he said gave him confidence and helped him improve his skills. Max’s favorite experience as an IBSS intern was last summer when the company held a Waffle Party! He loved how every IBSS employee was treated like a member of the family.

Ayala – MARKETING/COPYWRITING

Ayala, one of the IBSS Summer 2020 interns

I was the Marketing Copywriter Intern at IBSS. My main project was writing and producing content for the IBSS blog and social media. My internship gave me the opportunity to practice and improve on my writing skills for multiple audiences. I also learned about how a marketing department works in a business environment. I was thankful for this internship because it allowed me to make valuable connections within the PR/Marketing industry. My favorite part about my internship with IBSS was how all employees, even interns, were treated like a member of the family. After graduation, I hope to work for a PR/Marketing firm in the DC area. I am thankful I had the opportunity to work for such an amazing company!
