Responsible for administering the DoDEA’s Google Workspace for Education environment, IBSS was well-positioned to answer to COVID-19 school closures in 2020. As a long-term partner, IBSS leveraged our unique understanding of the DoDEA’s educational and cybersecurity environments to respond to an almost overnight dependence on virtual/cloud-based systems. We worked with DoDEA’s district points of contact to:
- Rapidly migrate 163 schools to remote learning – ensuring functionality and access with minimal classroom interruption for 8,000 educators worldwide.
- Implement cybersecurity account and data protections such as 2-Step Verification for 70,000 students.
- Manage 38,000 Chromebooks across DoDEA global regions, developing service restrictions and configurations for Pre-K to 12th grade students.
Part of this work required we integrate Google Workspace and business applications, including Aspen Student Information System, Microsoft Power BI, and Adobe Creative Cloud – providing student consolidated access to web-based subscriptions.
IBSS’s support for the DoDEA’s education environment folds into the Department of Defense’s larger Cloud Strategy mandate to migrate major premise-based resources to the cloud by 2023. IBSS worked within this timeline to:
- Harden SaaS solutions such as Google Workspace, ClassLink, and Follett Aspen
- Develop IaaS migration and triaging for platform data centers
- Assess 750 cloud and on-premise software cybersecurity compliance across cloud, Windows, ChromeOS, and Apple iOS and OSX systems
- Build and manage nearly 100% of DoDEA’s active SharePoint sites
As we redesign enterprise systems for the cloud, our goal is to reduce the amount of forklifting required to keep customer costs low and increase migration efficiency.
