As a Weather Ready Ambassador, IBSS is committed to the NWS’s mission to achieve a Weather Ready Nation. Partnering with RTI, we support the NWS OWP in promoting and improving the National Water Center (NWC) National Water Model (NWM) – a hydrologic modeling framework with observed forecast streamflow for 2.7M river reaches and hydrologic information on 1km and 250m grids. The NWM provides forecast guidance for 5M miles of river and streams in the US and impacts NOAA river forecast centers and field offices working toward expanded water services.
To improve NWM’s hydrologic and hydraulic predictions, we delivered hydrologic simulation and water resources forecast expertise. As Interagency Coordinator for agencies that use the NWM, we maximize corporation and minimize redundancies for agencies including the DOI, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and Department of Agriculture. We also organize OWP engagement at important conferences such as the American Geophysical Union.
